چکیده

Techniques for artificial bandwith extension (ABWE) [1] aim to extend the limited audio bandwidth of current narrowband telephone systems (0.3 – 3.4 kHz) towards the wideband frequency range (0.05 – 7 kHz). In several studies, a consistent quality advantage of the enhanced signals over narrowband speech is reported, e.g., [2]. In this contribution we evaluate an ABWE algorithm under realistic conditions and assess its impact on the speech intelligibility.

Bandwidth Extension of Speech Signals: A Comprehensive Review

Telephone systems commonly transmit narrowband (NB) speech with an audio bandwidth limited to the traditional telephone band of 300-3400 Hz. To improve the quality and intelligibility of speech degraded by narrow bandwidth, researchers have tried to standardize the telephonic networks by introducing wideband (50-7000 Hz) speech codecs. Wideband (WB) speech transmission requires the transmission...

Artificial bandwidth extension based on regularized piecewise linear mapping with discriminative region weighting and long-Span features

Artificial Bandwidth Extension (ABE) has been introduced to improve perceived speech quality and intelligibility of narrowband telephone speech. Most of the existing algorithms divided ABE into 2 sub-problems, namely extension of the excitation signal and that of the spectral envelope. In this paper, we propose a new method for spectral envelope extension based on REgularized piecewise linear m...

From Narrowband Telephony to Wideband Telephony

The restricted audio quality of today’s telephone networks is mainly due to the narrowband (NB) limitation to the frequency range from about 300 Hz to 3.4 kHz. Meanwhile, codecs for wideband (WB) telephony (50 Hz to 7 kHz) exist with significantly improved speech intelligibility and naturalness. However, the broad introduction of wideband speech coding will require strong efforts of both networ...

Speech bandwidth extension by improved codebook mapping towards increased phonetic classification

Bandwidth limitation (0-4KHz) is a major degradation for the performance of the current speech communication systems. The narrowband speech provides much lower quality and intelligibility than wideband speech (0-8KHz). Speech bandwidth extension technology has been recently investigated to aim at artificially regenerating the missing high-band speech signal. This paper describes a robust speech...
